LAGOS, Nigeria — Nigerian social media personality and self-styled relationship consultant, Blessing Okoro, popularly known as Blessing CEO, has publicly declared that she will not apologize for recent claims regarding a breast cancer diagnosis. The controversy erupted after the influencer shared health updates that many of her followers and critics deemed misleading.
Speaking in an interview with social media content creator Egungun of Lagos on Saturday, April 4, 2026, Okoro addressed the backlash. When asked if she intended to apologize to those who felt deceived by her initial assertion of having stage four cancer, she remained firm. “For what? Who did I hurt?” she asked during the interview. Okoro suggested that any confusion regarding her medical status stemmed from a misunderstanding of the clinical information she received. “I think I’m not a doctor and maybe I just passed the message that a doctor gave to me,” she explained.
The influencer further clarified her current health status, noting that she is still awaiting a definitive assessment from her oncologist. She stated that while she had previously mentioned a stage four diagnosis, it may have been a miscommunication. Okoro confirmed she has undergone several tests but has not yet started chemotherapy. She recounted that her health concerns began last year after finding a lump. While initial tests suggested the growth was non-cancerous, she claimed a subsequent evaluation indicated it was indeed cancerous.
Addressing the financial aspect of the controversy, Okoro denied reports that she had raised ₦100 million (about $71,400) in public donations. She stated that the actual amount collected was ₦13 million (about $9,285). Okay News reports that this clarification comes amid mounting pressure from donors. Alafaa Kariboye-Igbo, a businessman known as Oil Money, recently issued a legal demand for the return of a ₦20 million (about $14,285) donation he claims to have made, threatening legal action if the funds are not refunded within seven days.
Despite the scrutiny and allegations of forging medical reports, Okoro refused to publish her clinical results, describing them as personal. She used the interview to encourage women to perform regular breast self-examinations for early detection. The influencer has a history of public controversy, notably in 2019 when she was arrested after falsely claiming ownership of a luxury mansion belonging to another individual.
