A Nigerian soldier yet to be identified has been confirmed dead and another injured during an attack in Timbuktu, Mali.

UN Secretary General, António Guterres, condemned the attack saying he is “deeply saddened” over the death of the peacekeeper.

However, Guterres urged the Malian authorities to bring those behind the killing to justice, explaining that targeting UN peacekeepers “may constitute war crimes”.
