IBADAN, Nigeria – Nigeria‘s traditional ruler, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, called on the Federal Government to address escalating national insecurity.
Okay News reports that Ladoja urged the government to fast-track the establishment of state police while speaking to participants of the Executive Intelligence Management Course 19 for 2026 at the National Institute for Security Studies in Bwari, Abuja, during a meeting at his palace in Oke-Aremo.
The traditional leader stated that security forms the foundation of national progress and that sustainable development cannot occur in an environment of fear and instability. He noted that the fight against insecurity requires collective responsibility, as the government alone cannot resolve the issue, and asked citizens to support ongoing efforts to curb the trend.
Simultaneously, Amaechi asked the federal authorities to suspend ongoing electioneering campaigns and focus urgently on the worsening security situation. He stated that restoring security should be treated as a national emergency and prioritized above political activities.
Amaechi cautioned that continuing political campaigns amid killings, kidnappings, and rising unrest deepens public frustration and distrust in the government. He stated that meaningful elections cannot take place if citizens do not feel safe in their communities.
The visit to the Olubadan Palace by the institute participants was organized to engage key traditional institutions and understand their roles in promoting peace and stability.
