Nigerian troops attached to the 155 Task Force Battalion rescued 14 persons and recovered weapons from Boko Haram insurgents, the Army headquarters said on Sunday.

The troops were on patrol to Nimila Village in Borno State when they carried out the rescue operation. The victims are mostly women and children, the Army said.

In a statement signed by Sani Usman, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, the soldiers also recovered equipment ranging from Dane guns to motorcycles.

“In continuation of the ongoing clearance operations of suspected Boko Haram terrorists hideouts, troops of 155 Task Force Battalion conducted a patrol to Nimila village today during which they rescued 14 persons from the clutches of Boko Haram terrorists and recovered weapons. The rescued persons were mostly women and children.

“The troops also recovered 3 Dane Guns; a single barrel and 2 double barrels. They further recovered 3 motor cycles abandoned by the terrorists, in addition to 2 mobile telephone handsets,” Mr. Usman, a Colonel, said.

Nigerian troops have recently announced several victories against the Boko Haram, reclaiming territory initially taken by the terror group whose activities have caused over 20,000 deaths since 2009.
