BENIN CITY, Nigeria — A cross-border police investigation has led to the shocking discovery of a married woman, identified simply as Mrs. Oluchi, who allegedly faked her own violent abduction to extort a ₦50 million ransom from her family, only to be found relaxing with her secret lover in a Delta State hotel.
The spectacular unraveling of the staged kidnapping was confirmed on Monday afternoon, June 8, 2026, by law enforcement officials, sparking widespread outrage and leaving her family structurally devastated.
Okay News reports that Mrs. Oluchi’s children, including her daughter Anita who is based in Canada, had initially thrown the public into a frenzy after announcing that their mother was abducted by heavily armed men in the Ikpoba Hill area of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State. Believing her life was in imminent danger, the family launched an aggressive public crowdfunding campaign to raise the money, especially after the “captors” lowered their demands to a final compromise of ₦20 million. Unknown to the traumatized family, the entire scheme was a synchronized plot designed to extract funds from her unsuspecting husband and children.
A crack tactical team from the Edo State Police Command shattered the illusion after tracing a suspicious mobile phone number linked to the operation to a hospitality facility in Ubiaroko, Delta State. Moving in to breach the room, detectives caught the supposedly distressed hostage and her lover completely unharmed. Security sources revealed that the police initially called the husband to inform him that his wife had been recovered, but waited until he arrived at the station to break the devastating news of the infidelity and extortion. A viral video posted by her daughter Anita later confirmed the heartbreak, with the daughter apologizing to donors and vowing that the family would allow the full weight of the law to take its course. “My reputation has been ruined… This has shattered my family. My dad has some health issues,” Anita lamented, confirming that the raised funds remain intact and will be systematically refunded to donors.
The scandal has also drawn sharp reactions from civic groups, with the Harmony Ladies Club—a high-profile social organization to which Anita belongs—instantly issuing an official dissociation statement on their networks, expressing deep embarrassment and betrayal after rallying emotional and logistical resources for what they thought was a life-threatening crisis. Confirming the breakthrough, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Edo State Command, Eno Ikoedem, stated that Mrs. Oluchi, her lover, and two other logistical accomplices have been formally arrested. The four suspects face severe criminal charges under regional anti-kidnapping laws, which criminalize the fabrication of abductions and malicious extortion.
