ABUJA, Nigeria — The newly appointed acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, arrived at the presidential residence, Aso Rock Villa, in Abuja on Tuesday, February 25, 2026, to be formally decorated with his new rank.
Our correspondent observed that Disu arrived at the villa at approximately 3:00 p.m. West African Time (WAT, GMT+1), marking the beginning of the official ceremonies for his appointment.
Disu assumes the top police position following the resignation of former Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun. The federal government of Nigeria confirmed Egbetokun’s resignation on Tuesday. The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, stated that President Bola Tinubu accepted Egbetokun’s resignation after he cited pressing family considerations in his resignation letter.
The appointment of Disu comes at a critical period for the Nigerian Police Force, which has been under pressure to improve national security across the country. As acting IGP, Disu is expected to continue ongoing reforms and oversee operations aimed at strengthening public safety and police accountability nationwide.
Okay News reports that Olatunji Disu, who has had an extensive career in the Nigerian Police Force, will officially assume responsibilities immediately after the ceremonial decoration at Aso Rock Villa. Further details on the ceremony and remarks by the President are expected to be released later in the day.
