Abuja, Nigeria — The African Democratic Congress, a Nigerian political party, has announced the appointment of committee chairmen who will oversee its upcoming ward, local government, and state congresses across the country.
In a statement released on Sunday, March 15, 2026, the Acting National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Tunji Lausa, said the appointments were approved by the party’s national leadership led by Nafiu Bala Gombe.
The statement explained that the decision was made in line with the party’s constitution and is part of preparations for internal elections that will produce new party officials at different administrative levels nationwide.
“These appointments are in accordance with the ADC Constitution. The selected officials are tasked with conducting the congresses to elect new party leaders at the respective levels,” the statement read.
The congresses are expected to take place across Nigeria’s 36 states and will cover the ward, local government or area council, and state levels. Political parties in Nigeria regularly organise such congresses to elect officials who coordinate party activities and political mobilisation at grassroots and regional levels.
Okay News reports that the congresses form a crucial stage in the party’s internal democratic process and are expected to help restructure the party’s leadership ahead of future political activities and national elections.
According to the statement, the committees appointed by the party will supervise the congresses in each state to ensure that the electoral procedures are conducted according to the party’s rules.
The party leadership also directed the appointed chairmen to report to the ADC national secretariat in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria, for an official inauguration and briefing on how the congresses will be conducted.
“All appointed Chairmen are hereby directed to report to the National Party Office for a formal inauguration and briefing regarding the electoral process,” the statement added.
The African Democratic Congress further urged the committee chairmen to carry out their responsibilities with fairness, transparency, and respect for the party’s democratic principles.
“The Party urges all appointees to be punctual and prepared to uphold the tenets of justice, fairness, and internal democracy as enshrined in the ADC constitution,” the statement said.
