The Nigerian national female basketball team, D’Tigresses, have won the 2017 Women AfroBasket after beating defending champions Senegal 65-46 in Bamako, Mali.

The Nigerian team won even though they lost the first quarter 18-12. This did not deter them, winning the next three quarters 21-10, 15-7, and 17-13.

The D’Tigresses, already assured of a place at the 2018 FIBA World Championship billed for Spain, started their journey to success with a victory over Mozambique.

The team went ahead to defeat Congo Republic 84-47 before walloping Egypt 106-72 to march into the quarter-finals.

D’Tigresses continued their impressive performance with a 106-33 emphatic victory over the Guinean team and later got the better of defending champions Senegal with a 58-54 win.

Next up was the Ivorians in the quarter-finals, a match they won 98-43. The victory fixed them up with a date with host Mali with a place in the final and one of two tickets for the 2018 FIBA Championship at stake.

The girls were victorious in a hard-fought game that ended 48-47. This was followed on Sunday by the completion of the double over the Senegalese team.
