Abuja, NIGERIA – The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has expressed deep appreciation to the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, following her donation of 140,000 educational books to public schools across the country.
The specialized publications, which consist of seven different titles focused on girl-child development, were produced under the First Lady’s pet project, the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), in partnership with the Merck Foundation. Okay News reports that the Federal Ministry of Education has immediately commenced the nationwide distribution of the volumes to various public school libraries.
Dr. Alausa described the massive donation as a timely intervention that directly addresses critical social vulnerabilities confronting young demographics, including gender discrimination and sexual violence. The minister emphasized that the books serve as a substantial investment in national literacy, core character development, and the long-term empowerment of the Nigerian child.
During the official handover ceremony at the State House, Senator Oluremi Tinubu noted that while the quantity is modest relative to the nation’s population, the literature is designed to instill confidence, empathy, and social responsibility in both boys and girls. The education ministry reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring equitable distribution so that children from diverse backgrounds can benefit from the lessons.
