Washington D.C., USA – First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has emphasized the indispensable role of physical books in the educational system, insisting they cannot be replaced by rapid technological advancements.
In a statement on Friday shared with Okay News by Busola Kukoyi, Senior Special Adviser to the First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu made the declaration during a meeting with the United States Special Envoy for Best Future Generations, Charles Harder.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the “Fostering the Future Together Global Summit” hosted by US First Lady Melania Trump in Washington, D.C. Senator Tinubu explained that reading physical books helps broaden children’s knowledge base by eliminating the disruptions and interference commonly associated with social media and digital channels.
Highlighting her husband’s commitment to the education sector, the First Lady reiterated that education remains pivotal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. “If you want to help people, you must first understand who they really are,” she stated. “My husband understands this, just as he did when he was the Governor of Lagos State in the day.
He is trying to sanitize the whole system and have a formidable foundation that can be built upon.” She further revealed to the Special Envoy that the Office of the First Lady is preparing to launch an aggressive nationwide child nutrition campaign in the coming days.
The global summit, which brought together over 45 First Ladies from around the world, focused extensively on the roles and effects of artificial intelligence among children and adolescents, as well as broader issues of health, nutrition, and child protection.
