Abuja, Nigeria: Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu swore in Dr Muttaqha Darma as Minister of Housing and Urban Development at the Presidential Villa on Friday, April 24, 2026.
Okay News reports that Nigeria’s Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, said the cabinet changes were aimed at strengthening cohesion in governance and improving economic delivery under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the President’s Conference Room a few minutes before 4:00 p.m. WAT. Darma succeeds Ahmed Dangiwa, whose exit followed a minor Federal Executive Council reshuffle announced by the Presidency on Tuesday.
Darma, a former Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund, was confirmed by the Senate on Thursday. His nomination was earlier conveyed to the upper legislative chamber in a letter read by Nigeria’s Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
During the screening, Darma pledged to work closely with the National Assembly to address the country’s housing deficit, noting that over 100 million Nigerians lack adequate housing. He outlined plans to improve leadership in the sector, expand access to affordable housing, and strengthen relevant institutions.
Dangiwa formally handed over the ministry on Thursday in compliance with a directive from Akume’s office.
