The Super Eagles of Nigeria continued their impressive rise in the FIFA world rankings as they moved up 10 places from 60th spot to 50th in the latest rankings released on Thursday.

They are joint 50th with Burkina Faso who also enjoyed a massive improvement, moving up 17 places. Nigeria’s points haul also improved from 562 to 616 in the month under review.

The Eagles’ brilliant rise in the rankings is not unconnected to their recent impressive results in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers following wins against Zambia (2-1) and Algeria (3-1).

On the continent, the Eagles are currently sixth (joint with Burkina Faso) after being out of the top 10 for a long time. Senegal are Africa’s number one team and are 33rd in the world.

Cameroon, who are the Eagles next opponent in the World Cup qualifiers, dropped six places from 59th to 65th position.

Algeria dropped three places from 35th to 38th, while Zambia moved up from 94th to 91st.

Argentina, meanwhile, maintained their number one spot in the world with Brazil moving one spot to second.

In third spot are world champions Germany who dropped one spot, Chile are fourth and Belgium are in fifth position.

Colombia, France, Portugal, Uruguay and Spain occupy the sixth, seventh, eight, ninth and 10th spots respectively.
