The Super Eagles of Nigeria could earn a massive financial reward if they emerge champions of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, following a landmark decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The continental body has approved a $10 million prize for the tournament winners, a figure that converts to over ₦14 billion.

CAF confirmed the new prize structure after its Executive Committee meeting in Rabat, describing it as part of efforts to significantly improve incentives for African national teams. The increase represents a major jump from the last edition of the tournament, where hosts Ivory Coast received $7 million after winning AFCON 2023.

The revised payout also reflects how far the competition’s financial rewards have grown in recent years. Just four years ago, the champions of the 2021 AFCON earned $5 million, meaning the winner’s prize has now doubled within a short period. CAF officials believe the improved funding will boost competitiveness and professionalism across the tournament.

Beyond the champions’ reward, other teams will also benefit from the expanded prize pool. The runners-up will receive $4 million, while each of the losing semi-finalists will earn $2.5 million. With AFCON 2025 approaching, the new incentives raise the stakes for Nigeria and other contenders aiming not only for continental glory but also a historic financial windfall.
