Nigeria’s Super Falcons Beat Cameroon to Win 2016 Women’s AFCON Title

Nigeria’s Super Falcons beat the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon by a lone goal on Saturday, December 3 to win the 2016 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations.

Desire Oparanozie netted the winner for the Super Falcons in the 82nd minute to hand Nigeria their 10th AWCON title.

The forward also scored in the 2014 AWCON final also against Cameroon.

Two of these titles were won when the tournament was played in a FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers format while eight was won in the proper AWCON tourneys.

Nigeria have now beaten Cameroon three times in the final-2004, 2014 and 2016.

Super Falcons coach Florence Omagbemi becomes the first woman to win the AWCON as a player and as a coach.
