Nigerian chess master, Tunde Onakoya, has embarked on a remarkable mission to surpass the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon.

Announcing the commencement of the event via his X account with the caption, “Game time,” Onakoya has set his sights on a monumental feat.

The chess marathon, which is currently underway at New York City’s iconic Times Square, commenced at 10 am on Wednesday, April 17, and is scheduled to conclude at 8 pm on April 19.

During this marathon, Onakoya will engage in an intense battle of wits, aiming to play chess continuously for an astounding 58 hours without suffering a single defeat.

This ambitious endeavor is not only a test of his strategic prowess but also a demonstration of endurance and mental resilience.

The current Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon stands at 56 hours, 9 minutes, and 37 seconds, set by Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad of Norway on November 11, 2018.
