Awka, Anambra State, Nigeria — Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, along with two former Presidents of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, are expected to attend the inauguration ceremony marking the start of a second term for Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo.
The ceremony will take place in Awka, the capital city of Anambra State in southeastern Nigeria, at the newly renovated Alex Ekwueme Square. A source within the Anambra State Government House in Awka confirmed the planned attendance on Tuesday, noting that several prominent political leaders and respected public figures from across Nigeria are expected to be present.
Vice President Kashim Shettima will represent Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is the current leader of Africa’s most populous nation. The inauguration ceremony is expected to attract many high profile dignitaries from across the country.
Among those expected at the event is Chief Emeka Anyaoku, a Nigerian diplomat and elder statesman who previously served as Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Nations, an international organisation of 56 member countries that were largely former territories of the British Empire.
Traditional rulers from all 179 communities in Anambra State are also expected to attend the ceremony. In addition, monarchs from other parts of Nigeria have been invited to participate in the event, highlighting the cultural and political importance attached to the governor’s second term inauguration.
Awka has seen heightened activity ahead of the ceremony. Residents and visitors have decorated parts of the city and are celebrating the governor’s return to office. Supporters say they expect the administration to continue its development agenda during the new term.
Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, was re elected as governor of Anambra State on Saturday, November 8, 2025, under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, a regional political party with strong support in southeastern Nigeria.
In the days leading up to the inauguration, Soludo and his deputy governor marked the completion of their first term with an interdenominational thanksgiving service on Sunday at the International Convention Centre in Awka.
During the service, the governor expressed gratitude to God and to the people of Anambra State for their continued support during his first term in office. He also pledged to deliver more democratic benefits to residents in the second term.
Soludo emphasised that his administration would promote inclusive governance and ensure that residents are not excluded based on religion, ethnic identity, or political affiliation.
Okay News reports that the All Progressives Grand Alliance has mobilised its members across the state in preparation for the inauguration ceremony. The party is bringing supporters from all 326 political wards in Anambra State to participate in the event.
Security agencies have also increased their presence across the state ahead of the inauguration. Personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Federal Road Safety Corps have been deployed to key locations to maintain order and manage traffic during the ceremony.
Authorities say the measures are intended to ensure that the event proceeds peacefully and safely as dignitaries and thousands of residents gather in the state capital for the inauguration.
