The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a three-day weather forecast predicting dust haze and rainfall across various regions of the country from Monday through Wednesday.
In its outlook released Sunday in Abuja, NiMet projected slight dust haze with good visibility over northern states including Borno, Zamfara, northern Kaduna, Yobe, Jigawa, Kano, and Katsina on Monday. Isolated thunderstorms and light rain are expected in Taraba and Adamawa States later in the day.
The central region will experience sunny skies with patches of clouds, with isolated thunderstorms and light rain forecast for the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, and Kogi States.
In the south, cloudy conditions are expected Monday morning, followed by thunderstorms and moderate rainfall in states such as Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Ondo, Osun, Lagos, Ekiti, Ogun, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom.
On Tuesday, dust haze will persist in the north, while Taraba and Adamawa may see continued light rain. The central region will have sunny skies with intermittent clouds and possible thunderstorms in Benue, FCT, Nasarawa, and Kogi.
Southern states will remain cloudy with moderate rainfall, particularly in Rivers, Cross River, Ebonyi, and Akwa Ibom.
By Wednesday, sunny skies are expected in the north, with isolated thunderstorms in Taraba. The central region will see similar conditions, while the south will experience morning clouds and afternoon thunderstorms in Lagos, Ogun, Rivers, Delta, and Akwa Ibom.
NiMet warned of potential flash floods in Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Cross River, urging local authorities to activate emergency response plans. Motorists were advised to drive cautiously in rainy conditions, and individuals with respiratory issues were urged to limit outdoor exposure due to dust in the north.
Airline operators were encouraged to consult NiMet for airport-specific weather updates to ensure safe flight operations.
