Nine killed as Police engage in gun battle with kidnappers on Kaduna-Abuja highway

Some policemen engaged in fierce gun battle with suspected kidnappers along Abuja-Kaduna Highway, the police spokesman confirmed.

Frank Mba, the Force Public Relations Officer, disclosed this in a statement made available to Okay Nigeria on Sunday.

He stated that a serious exchange of gunfire between police operatives attached to Operation Puff Adder and heavily armed bandits at the Akilbu Forest along the road as two of the bandits escaped with gunshot wounds.

Unfortunately, an officer was shot during the gun battle and was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Stating further, the spokesman said six Ak 47 Rifles, one Pump Action Gun, 1,206 rounds of Ak 47 Ammunition, seven magazines, 28 cartridges, and 158 expended shells was recovered after the incident.

Mba also revealed that efforts to capture the fleeing suspects are still ongoing.
