Nigeria’s National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the International Data Center Authority (IDCA) announced a partnership on May 12, 2026 to develop a three-year programme for digital infrastructure and workforce training.
The programme included a proposed Nigeria Digital Triangle: connected clusters of large data centres intended to support artificial intelligence and commercial cloud services.
Okay News reports that the partners linked the programme to Nigeria’s sovereign cloud initiative, which concerns domestic capacity to host and manage digital services and data.
The announcement described four areas of work: a national masterplan, infrastructure development, common technical standards and education for the workforce needed to operate the facilities.
NITDA’s director-general, Kashifu Inuwa, said the programme would involve members of the National Sovereign Cloud Initiative Technical Working Group as well as local and international participants.
IDCA, a digital infrastructure advisory organisation, said the plan would seek public and private capital and use milestones to guide implementation.
Emmanuel Edet, NITDA’s acting director of regulation and compliance, said technical standards would be developed alongside physical infrastructure. IDCA said education and workforce preparation would also be included to support the operation of the planned digital hubs.
The statement announced a partnership and intended programme. It did not identify the proposed data-centre sites, disclose a total investment commitment or give a construction start date.
The partners said implementation would run over three years, with government, private-sector and international organisations involved.
