Nigeria’s National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Budget Office of the Federation inaugurated a committee on the financing and procurement requirements of sovereign cloud infrastructure in August 2026.

The Joint Technical Committee of the National Sovereign Cloud Initiative brings together institutions responsible for public spending, investment, power, connectivity and data governance, according to NITDA’s account published on August 20.

Okay News reports that Budget Office Director-General Tanimu Yakubu chairs the committee, with NITDA Director-General Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi as co-chair.

Yakubu said government technology investment needed closer planning and supervision to reduce duplication and make better use of existing capacity. He said private investment should complement public expenditure.

The committee’s remit includes reviewing government computing and cloud spending, ownership costs, infrastructure utilisation and alignment between budgets and procurement.

Inuwa said NITDA was working towards certifying providers that met Nigeria’s sovereign cloud standards and supporting migration by banks and public agencies. The agency’s account also recorded participation by Adebowale Adedokun, director-general of the Bureau of Public Procurement, who said his organisation would support procurement compliance.
