Nigeria’s National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) asked government institutions to coordinate their cyber defences at a two-day workshop reported on July 22, 2026.
The programme concerned training for officials from ministries, departments and agencies on protecting government digital infrastructure.
Okay News reports that participants were invited to become the first external group to review NITDA’s draft information-security management guidelines, according to the agency.
Ayodele Bakare, an assistant director in NITDA’s cybersecurity department, represented Director-General Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi.
Inuwa said weaknesses in one institution could expose others and called for shared intelligence, practical training and stronger incident planning.
“Our defences cannot be fragmented,” he said.
The agency said government platforms had faced website attacks, ransomware and data breaches. It urged institutions to carry out regular risk assessments and train staff to recognise threats.
NITDA also identified its emergency response team as a contact point for government cyber incidents. The workshop included discussions and case studies intended to inform the draft guidelines before wider consultation.
