Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, opened a technology innovation hub at Obafemi Awolowo University on June 8, 2026, during the institution’s 65th-anniversary programme.
The facility at Ile-Ife, in southwestern Nigeria’s Osun State, was established by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in partnership with the Renewed Hope Initiative.
Okay News reports that the university identified laboratories for artificial intelligence, robotics, additive manufacturing, commonly known as 3D printing, and the Internet of Things, which connects physical devices to digital networks.
According to the university’s account, Tijani asked students to use the equipment to develop products and services that could compete outside Nigeria.
The university’s vice-chancellor, Adebayo Bamire, said the hub would provide practical experience and help students acquire skills used in industry.
The facility was also intended to support work involving students from different disciplines, including engineering, computer science, agriculture and health sciences.
