NITDA proposed a joint technical team with Nigeria’s independent electricity system operator in a June 2026 account of talks on power-sector digital tools.

Published Updated

Nigeria’s National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) proposed a joint technical team with the country’s electricity system operator, according to reports published on June 12, 2026.

The team would identify projects for cooperation between NITDA and the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), which coordinates electricity system operations and market administration.

Okay News reports that NITDA’s director-general, Kashifu Inuwa, made the proposal during discussions with NISO’s managing director and chief executive, Abdu Bello Mohammed.

Inuwa said reliable electricity was necessary for digital services, including data centres. He offered the agency’s experience in helping public institutions adopt digital systems.

Mohammed said NISO had begun installing connected meters at selected points in the electricity system to provide operating data.

The agency’s account did not announce a signed partnership or show that the proposed technical team had begun work.
