Nigeria’s National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) denied on May 25, 2026 that it was helping an online platform identified as CPM recover subscribers’ funds in return for additional payments.
The agency said it had received reports that subscribers were told the platform had been hacked and that further payments were needed for a recovery effort involving NITDA.
Okay News reports that the denial was attributed to Hadiza Umar, NITDA’s director of corporate communications and media relations, in contemporaneous coverage of the agency’s public disclaimer.
NITDA said it did not collect money from citizens for incident-response support, fund recovery or assistance with private organisations’ cybersecurity incidents.
It asked people to verify claims of government involvement through official channels and avoid additional payments based on its alleged participation.
The agency also cautioned against sharing personal or financial information with unverified parties. Its account characterised the reported demands as potentially deceptive; it did not establish that the alleged hacking had occurred.
The disclaimer concerned claims circulating in May. It did not announce a NITDA compensation scheme or a repayment timetable for CPM subscribers.
