NITDA Seeks Ministry Direction on Cloud and Cybersecurity Policy

NITDA’s account of a ministry visit described requests for policy direction on sovereign cloud infrastructure and cybersecurity, with no new approval announced.

Nigeria’s National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) sought direction from its supervising ministry on cloud infrastructure and cybersecurity policy during a visit described in an agency report published on May 14, 2026.

Nadungu Gagare, permanent secretary of Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, visited the agency’s headquarters in Abuja, the country’s capital.

Okay News reports that NITDA’s director-general, Kashifu Inuwa, identified national cloud and cybersecurity policies as matters requiring further ministerial guidance.

Inuwa said clear institutional responsibilities were necessary as the ministry and agency developed the programmes. The published account did not announce a newly approved policy or legal instrument.

Gagare said the visit formed part of discussions with agencies under the ministry to review progress and address operational issues requiring higher-level intervention.

The meeting also covered performance management. Both officials discussed the use of staff targets, rewards and consequences to improve public administration.

Gagare said the ministry would continue providing guidance as its agencies coordinated implementation of their overlapping responsibilities.
