Nigeria’s National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) announced a taskforce to coordinate the country’s sovereign cloud programme on August 24, 2026, according to the agency’s announcement.
The National Sovereign Cloud Initiative Implementation Taskforce was established to bring institutions and private-sector participants together on delivery of the programme’s regulatory and technical measures.
Okay News reports that the taskforce’s priorities included aligning regulations, coordinating institutions and monitoring implementation, according to the agency’s statement.
The agency said the initiative was intended to strengthen protection for critical digital assets while supporting local capacity, private investment and access to global technology.
The taskforce would also address constraints affecting implementation of the programme’s cloud-adoption, infrastructure-assurance and investment instruments, the agency said.
It followed a separate joint technical committee involving NITDA and the Budget Office of the Federation. That committee focused on the fiscal, financing and procurement arrangements required for sovereign cloud development.
The August announcement described the taskforce’s responsibilities. It did not establish that government workloads had already migrated or that a new provider-certification register was operational.
