Nigeria’s National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the South-South Development Commission held a five-day digital-skills programme for young people, according to reports published on February 23, 2026.
The programme took place at pilot centres in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, and Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State in southern Nigeria. Participants came from states in Nigeria’s South-South region.
Okay News reports that AkwaIbomTimes and The Beagle News reported the training.
The reports described practical instruction in information technology, artificial intelligence and other digital tools. They said participants received laptops to support further learning after the classroom sessions.
The accounts also referred to financial assistance for participation, but did not establish a verified amount paid to each trainee or give a total number of beneficiaries.
The programme followed discussions between the two agencies on expanding digital opportunities in the region. In its separate February account of those talks, NITDA identified access to devices, training and better use of existing technology centres as areas for joint work.
The earlier engagement involved NITDA Director-General Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi and the commission’s Managing Director, Usoro Akpabio.
The February training reports said organisers planned to extend activities beyond the pilot locations. They did not provide a confirmed expansion timetable or establish that training had already reached every South-South state.
