NITDA and Nigeria’s basic education commission discussed digital learning, teacher skills and access to technology in talks reported in February 2026.

Published Updated

Nigeria’s National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) discussed expanding digital learning during talks reported by Voice of Nigeria on February 20, 2026.

NITDA Director-General Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi received UBEC Executive Secretary Aisha Garba and her management team at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

Okay News reports that the discussions concerned how teacher training and access to technology could improve learning for pupils. The broadcaster’s account described plans for closer coordination between the two agencies.

Inuwa said working with UBEC could help NITDA reach children across the basic education system. The discussions were linked to Nigeria’s digital-literacy targets of 70% by 2027 and 95% by 2030.

Garba said the commission needed partners to address gaps in access and the quality of education. Voice of Nigeria reported that rural and underserved communities were among the priorities discussed.

The accounts described an effort to align programmes and use existing resources more effectively. They did not identify a new construction programme, announce a signed agreement or establish that all pupils in the basic education system had already received digital training.
