Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) has urged for heightened consumer awareness, particularly in rural areas, regarding the use of Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) as a safer alternative to biomass for cooking, aiming to boost utilization and mitigate associated risks.

Speaking at the National Oil Companies Forum during the 7th Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES), Mrs. Fatima Adanan, NLNG’s General Manager of Finance, stressed the importance of a concerted campaign to transition biomass users to LPG for cooking purposes. The objective is to elevate LPG usage across Nigeria, thereby reshaping the current energy landscape and facilitating deeper integration of LPG into households.

Adanan highlighted that Nigeria’s total market consumption of LPG stands at approximately 1.5 million metric tons, with significant potential for exponential growth. NLNG plays a pivotal role in meeting this demand by supplying close to 500,000 metric tons of LPG to the domestic market, fulfilling its commitment to allocate 100% of its LPG production for local consumption.

Emphasizing NLNG’s efforts to ensure accessibility and affordability, Adanan noted that the company offers LPG at competitive prices, facilitating transactions in Nigerian Naira. Furthermore, NLNG expressed readiness to collaborate with stakeholders to enhance LPG utilization, urging indigenous companies to actively engage in the distribution network and contribute to a resilient value chain.

Adanan underscored NLNG’s steadfast commitment to promoting the adoption of cooking gas as a superior and environmentally friendly cooking fuel. By advocating for LPG usage, NLNG aims to protect consumers and the environment from the inherent risks associated with alternative fuels, aligning with the company’s overarching environmental safety priorities.
