The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Exploration and Production Limited has achieved a crude oil output of 355,000 barrels per day, marking its highest production level in 36 years. The milestone was confirmed on Tuesday following a series of asset recoveries and improved operational performance across its portfolio.

Okay News reports that the company attributed the surge to enhanced security cooperation, increased community engagement, and the rehabilitation of previously dormant oil wells that had constrained output for years.

In a statement issued by the firm, NNPC E&P said the production rebound reflects the success of ongoing reforms aimed at stabilising crude output and reversing historical declines. Management noted that the company had not reached this production threshold since 1989, describing the achievement as a significant turnaround for Nigeria’s upstream sector.

The company added that recent field optimisation efforts, new well interventions, and accelerated maintenance campaigns contributed to the record figure. Officials said the improved output would support Nigeria’s broader goal of sustaining production above one million barrels per day amid global market pressures.

According to NNPC E&P, additional recovery plans are underway across joint venture assets, with the company reiterating its commitment to increasing national crude supply and boosting government revenue.
