The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has disclosed its plan to build a mega station in each of the 109 senatorial zones in the country in the coming months.

According to a statement released in Abuja, the group will also seek to improve on its 12 percent market share in the country’s retail petroleum marketing business.

The statement which was released by NNPC’s spokesperson, Ohi Alegbe said the corporation would require a 5000-square-metre piece of land for each of the mega stations.

In the statement which was released on behalf of the NNPC’s Executive Director, Commercial and Investment, Dr Babatunde Adeniran, he said the mega stations, when constructed, would have six pumps, which includes one for domestic gas.

The purpose of the proposed project, he said, was to bring products closer to the people.

The corporation said it had embarked on nation-wide consultation with stakeholders to drum up support for the planned expansion.

Adeniran had visited the Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai; Jigawa State, Alhaji Badaru Abubakar, and that of Kano, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, to intimate them about the proposed expansion plan of the NNPC.

The governors had in-turn expressed their total support for the project, even offering choices of land on which to construct the mega stations in their various states.
