ABUJA, Nigeria – The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) officially denied joining any new political alliance today. Furthermore, the political party rejected claims regarding the ADC Coalition. Consequently, officials clarified their independent stance ahead of future elections.
Mr. Ogini Olaposi serves as the National Secretary for the NNPP. Accordingly, he released a public statement on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. West Africa Time (WAT, GMT+1). Okay News reports that Olaposi strongly dismissed statements made by former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Previously, Abubakar spoke during a live television interview. He appeared on Arise Television with broadcaster Mr. Charles Aniagolu. During this broadcast, Abubakar listed the NNPP as a member of the growing political group.
Subsequently, Olaposi expressed his shock over the television interview claims. He directly addressed Abubakar’s statements in his official response. “We are so surprised that Abubakar, a frontline presidential aspirant of the ADC, could make such an assertion that NNPP is now in ADC,” he said.
Internal Shifts and the ADC Coalition
Meanwhile, Olaposi clarified the status of several high-profile Nigerian politicians. He mentioned Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and Dr. Ahmed Ajuji. Additionally, he listed Elder Buba Galadima and the Kwankwasiya Movement.
Specifically, these individuals recently joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC). However, Olaposi insisted their membership does not represent the NNPP. Therefore, the actions of these politicians remain entirely separate from the NNPP platform.
He provided further context about the political shifts. “Kwankwaso and his Kwankwasiya movement are members of the coalition group, and there is verifiable evidence that some members of the group followed Kwankwaso to the new party,” he stated.
Furthermore, the NNPP maintains its singular focus on upcoming electoral contests. “NNPP is not after anyone or group but merely a political party seeking to contest elections in Nigeria like other political parties,” Olaposi declared.
Future Plans Beyond the ADC Coalition
Moreover, the party holds no animosity toward the rival group. “We have nothing against the ADC, but we also do not want to be part of it,” the National Secretary explained.
Additionally, Olaposi discussed past agreements with the prominent Kwankwasiya Movement. “The Memorandum of Association we had with the Kwankwasiya movement expired after the 2023 general elections. Kwankwaso and others were equally expelled from the NNPP,” he revealed.
Ultimately, many of these departing members chose a different path. “We can also say that some members of the Kwankwasiya movement joined the APC with their leader,” he said.
Finally, Olaposi questioned the actual size of this new movement. He hopes leaders of the ADC Coalition were not deceived by rented crowds. These crowds appeared recently in Kano, Kano State, Nigeria.
Currently, the majority of the Kwankwasiya Movement group resides in the All Progressives Congress (APC). Consequently, the actual political landscape remains distinctly separate from earlier broadcasted claims.
