The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has taken disciplinary action against Senator Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, who represents Kano South Senatorial District, along with three members of the House of Representatives from Kano State.

The party announced their indefinite suspension on Monday, citing allegations of anti-party activities.

The suspended lawmakers include Abdullahi Sani Rogo of Rogo Federal Constituency, Abdullahi Rurum representing Rano/Kibiya Federal Constituency, and Ali Maadakin Gini from Dala Federal Constituency.

Their suspension follows recent remarks by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who suggested that a senator and several NNPP members were on the verge of defecting to the APC.

During a press conference, Kano State NNPP Chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, justified the decision, accusing the lawmakers of “gross misconduct.”

He criticized them for working against the party’s interests despite having been granted NNPP tickets after leaving the APC.

However, the suspension has sparked division within the party. Senator Mas’ud El-Jibril Doguwa, who leads a faction of the NNPP in Kano, dismissed the action as meaningless, arguing that Dungurawa lacked the authority to impose such sanctions.

He maintained that the affected lawmakers remain legitimate NNPP members, aligned with the faction recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
