The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II said on Monday that the Hausa Community in Kano has no grudge against the Igbos resident in the state.

Sanusi made the clarification when members of the Abia state Council of Chiefs led by its Chairman , Mr. Ebere Chidik paid him a courtesy visit at his palace in Kano.

“The Hausas have for decades been accommodating the Igbos without grudge, animosity and rancour.

He said the time had come for both parties to comprehend the peculiar interest of each other adding ‘there was no justifiable premise for the two Communities to begrudge one another.’

According to him, all the misunderstandings, animosity and rancour were the handiwork of ‘rabble-rousers’ whose intention was to cause disaffection in a cosmopolitan city.

“The Igbos are fully embraced and treated with kid gloves in virtually all spheres of human endeavour. “he said.

He said the Igbo are known to be wielding considerable influence in spheres of business and commerce in the ancient city without hindrance.

“If there was animosity and rancour from their host community, they (Igbos) would have found it very difficult to co-exist cordially.

Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman, Abia state Council of Chiefs, Mr. Ebere Chidik said they were at the palace to pay a special homage to the Emir.

He said the delegation was also in the state to express their gratitude and appreciation to the Emir for his effort in dousing tension and resolving crisis between the Hausa community and the Igbos residing in the state. (NAN).
