Thousands of demonstrations tagged “No Kings” are taking place across the United States, as citizens mobilize against policies of President Donald Trump, including military actions abroad, immigration enforcement, and economic decisions.
Organizers say more than 3,000 protests were scheduled nationwide, stretching from major cities to remote areas like Alaska and Hawaii, with additional demonstrations planned in countries such as Canada, Kenya, and Iceland. The movement, which began last year, has already drawn millions of participants in previous rallies.
According to Ezra Levin, a key organizer and co-executive director of Indivisible, the protests are open to Americans across political lines—Republicans, Democrats, and independents alike—who oppose authoritarian leadership and what they describe as threats to democratic values.
Okay News reports that the protests are also fueled by opposition to the ongoing U.S.–Iran conflict 2026, which followed joint U.S.-Israel strikes on Iran. Many demonstrators argue that the conflict does not reflect the will of the majority of Americans and are calling for greater congressional oversight on decisions related to war.
High-profile figures, including Bernie Sanders and Ilhan Omar, are expected at major rallies such as the one in Minneapolis. Celebrities like Jane Fonda and Bruce Springsteen are also slated to participate.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has indicated plans to attend, particularly as the state has been at the center of recent immigration enforcement controversies. Earlier incidents involving federal agents in the state have intensified calls for reforms within the Department of Homeland Security.
Organizers describe the protests as peaceful demonstrations aimed at defending democracy and pushing back against policies they believe undermine civil liberties, while urging broader civic participation ahead of the nation’s 250th anniversary.
