Renowned Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has entered the fray of the ongoing debate surrounding DNA tests in Nigeria, which has sparked widespread discussions across social media platforms.

As Nigerians remain divided over the necessity of DNA testing, particularly in light of recent cases involving paternity fraud, Seun Kuti took to his Instagram account to share his perspective on the matter.

In a video, Kuti asserted that the demand for DNA tests ultimately boils down to issues of trust and power dynamics within relationships.

He argued that while the ostensible reason for DNA testing may be to verify paternity, the underlying motivations often stem from deeper relational dynamics.

According to Kuti, “There is no way that doing DNA test is not about trust. Doing DNA test is a trust issue 100 per cent! It’s not only a trust issue, it’s also a power issue. No man would request for a DNA test if their partners are richer than them.”
