Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed no progress had been made over Alexis Sanchez’s situation at the club.

Asked if there was news on Sanchez, Wenger said: “At the moment he’s a player going into the final year of his contract and prepares for the season. We have not made any progress on that front,” he told SkySports at the pre-conference ahead of the weekend game with Stoke City.

It looked like the Gunners remain adamant as the club is prepared to let Sanchez leave for free next summer.

“That is a consequence of what I say, unfortunately. We have to make a choice between efficiency on the field and financial interest.

“If you can find a good compromise it’s better but, in this case, our priority is to use him on the sporting side.”

Wenger further said Sanchez is “not quite available” to face Stoke City on Saturday but defender Shkodran Mustafi and midfielder Francis Coquelin are now fit and will be in the squad.

The Frenchman also said there is a possibility of Lucaz Perez leaving the club before the close of the transfer window.

“I have opened the door for Perez.

On the future of Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, who is being linked with a move to Aston Villa in some of today’s newspapers, Wenger said the plan is keep the England international at the club for the whole season.

Speaking on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who has been linked with a move to Chelsea, Wenger said the utility player will not be leaving the club.
