ABUJA, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has welcomed the rescue of the school pupils and teachers abducted in Orire, Oyo State, describing their safe return as a moment of gratitude for the country and a victory for Nigeria’s security forces.
Okay News reports that the President praised the efforts of security personnel involved in the operation, saying the victims were rescued alive without the payment of any ransom or concession to their captors.
In a statement issued on Friday, Tinubu commended the officers and operatives who carried out the mission, applauding their courage, discipline, and professionalism.
“Tonight, our nation has reason to give thanks,” the President said. “The children and teachers abducted by Ansaru terrorists in Oyo State have been rescued by our security forces, alive and unharmed. No ransom was paid. No concession was made.”
He also sent a strong warning to terrorist groups, declaring that the government would continue pursuing those responsible for violent attacks across the country.
“To those who seek to spread fear through terror, know that the Nigerian state will pursue you relentlessly. We will protect our people, defend our communities, and never relent until peace and security prevail across our country,” Tinubu stated.
The rescue comes after the victims spent more than 50 days in captivity following their abduction in Orire, Oyo State.
Earlier on Friday, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the development in a post on X, announcing that the abducted pupils and teachers had regained their freedom.
