The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has urged Nigerians to obtain formal approval before using the national anthem to avoid potential misuse or misinterpretation, Okay.ng reports.

The Director General of the NOA, Lanre Issa-Onilu, emphasized the importance of seeking permission from the agency before using the anthem or its lyrics to prevent misrepresentation.

The NOA will conduct sensitization campaigns across the 36 states of the federation to clarify its new policies and guidelines.

Issa-Onilu also highlighted the official colors of the Nigerian flag, which are green, white, and green, with the specific shade of green being Emerald 2.0.

He expressed concern that past administrations focused too much on infrastructure development and neglected value orientation, leading to the decline of social intervention structures.

He acknowledged President Bola Tinubu for recognizing this gap and supporting the revival of value-based initiatives.

President Tinubu signed into law a bill re-adopting Nigeria’s old national anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee,” which was originally written by Lillian Jean Williams and composed by Frances Berda in 1959. The anthem, dropped by a military government in 1978, has now been restored.
