Nottingham Forest delivered a dominant performance to defeat Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 at the City Ground, capitalising on a calamitous afternoon for Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.
Forest set the tempo early and nearly went ahead inside five minutes when Ibrahim Sangaré powered a header against the post from a Nicolo Savona cross. Tottenham struggled to cope with the hosts’ intensity, and their resistance soon crumbled through a defensive error.
The opening goal came after Vicario played a risky pass into Archie Gray on the edge of the box. Sangaré pounced to dispossess the midfielder before squaring for Callum Hudson-Odoi, who tapped into an empty net.
Vicario’s troubles continued after the interval as Forest doubled their lead in fortunate but deserved fashion. Hudson-Odoi attempted a cross from the left, but the ball looped over the Spurs goalkeeper, who misjudged its flight, and dropped into the far corner for the winger’s second goal of the afternoon.
Tottenham boss Thomas Frank responded with a triple substitution, but the changes failed to stem Forest’s dominance. The hosts rounded off a near-perfect display late on when Sangaré struck a stunning effort from distance, the ball swerving beyond Vicario and clipping the inside of the post on its way in.
The result lifts Nottingham Forest further clear of the relegation zone, while Spurs missed the chance to claim a third consecutive win in all competitions. For Tottenham, it was a sobering performance marked by costly errors and a lack of intensity, as Forest outworked and outplayed them across the pitch.
