Federal High Court, Abuja, NIGERIA — A dramatic role reversal played out on Monday at the Federal High Court in Abuja as human rights activist and AAC leader, Omoyele Sowore, came face-to-face with the former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN.
The encounter, which was captured in a widely circulated video seen by Okay News, contrasts the shifting fortunes of two men who were on opposite sides of the justice system during the Buhari administration.
Sowore, who was at the court for a bail hearing involving crypto entrepreneur BLord, spotted Malami, who is currently defending himself against N8.7 billion money laundering charges brought by the EFCC.
Sowore took the opportunity to remind the former AGF of the “RevolutionNow” protests in 2019, during which Malami’s ministry oversaw Sowore’s detention without trial.
In the exchange, Sowore noted that the “tables have turned,” pointing out that the man who once wielded the state’s prosecutorial power was now facing the same legal machinery. While recent terrorism counts against Malami were dropped, he remains embroiled in ongoing allegations of financial impropriety. Sowore described Malami as the “architect of the Buhari-era justice crackdown,” characterizing the encounter as a moment of accountability for past rights abuses.
