The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) has commenced an Integrated Vaccine Campaign at Aleyita Primary Health Centre and LEA Primary School in Abuja, targeting children aged 0 to 14 years across Nigeria.
The initiative combines multiple health interventions to protect children from preventable diseases by merging routine immunisation with treatment for common and life-threatening childhood illnesses.
Dr. Muyi Aina, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of NPHCDA, said on Thursday that the campaign’s integrated model would expand reach, reduce missed vaccinations, and strengthen national child health outcomes.
He explained that the exercise covers routine immunisation for children aged 0 to 23 months, measles-rubella vaccination for those between 9 months and 14 years, and polio vaccination for children under five.
Aina added that the programme also includes HPV vaccination for nine-year-old girls, treatment for Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs), and seasonal malaria chemoprevention as part of a comprehensive healthcare package.
“All vaccines and services provided under this campaign are safe, effective, and completely free,” Aina stated. He urged parents and caregivers to ensure their children are vaccinated to secure a healthier future.
The first phase of the campaign runs from October 6 to 15, 2025, across 19 northern states and Oyo, while the second phase will extend to southern states between January and February 2026.
Global partners such as the World Health Organisation (WHO), UNICEF, and Gavi are supporting the effort to enhance immunisation and child health nationwide.
Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, described the initiative as a bold and vital step toward safeguarding the health and future of Nigerian children.
“This flag-off reflects our national resolve to say no more to diseases that steal our children’s future. It’s a step forward in building a healthier, safer Nigeria,” she said.
She noted that the integrated campaign supports President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at ensuring every child receives full protection from birth and no mother dies while giving life.
