NRM Endorses Esther Okereke for Nigeria’s 2027 Presidential Race

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

ABUJA, Nigeria — The National Rescue Movement (NRM) has officially endorsed Dr. Esther Nkem Okereke as its presidential candidate for the upcoming 2027 general elections, Okay News understands.

The decision was finalized on Friday, May 29, during the party’s presidential primary and national convention held in Abuja, where delegates also launched the party’s new governance blueprint titled “The Dawn of the Nigerian Rescue Mission.”

Okereke secured the ticket after emerging as the sole aspirant to successfully clear the party’s internal vetting and constitutional requirements. In her acceptance speech, she described her candidacy as a serious national assignment focused on fixing decades of economic hardship, insecurity, and institutional decay.

Okereke promised to immediately declare a state of emergency in the education and power sectors if elected, while pledging to modernize national security architectures and digitize public administration to curb corruption. She also made a direct appeal to youths and women to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and reject political alignments based on tribal or religious lines.

Supporting her address, NRM National Chairman Prince Chinedu Obi stated that the movement’s policy framework is built around 24 core pillars designed to tackle unemployment and infrastructure deficits. He emphasized that the party intentionally minimized financial barriers for aspirants to encourage wider participation and dismantle traditional political godfatherism in Nigeria.
