The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Edo Command says it has destroyed 28 illegal refineries in the state since January.

The Commandant of the Corps, Makinde Ayinla disclosed this on Monday in Benin.

Ayinla said 15 of them were discovered in Edo South; five in Edo Central and eight in Edo North.

He revealed that about 500,000 litres of illegally refined and adulterated petroleum product was seized and damaged during the time.

The Commandant also said there were 17 pending cases in court, with five convictions.

He also said that over 22 suspects were nabbed for armed robbery, drug trafficking and prostitution.
