The Rivers State Government has dismissed as false and malicious social media reports claiming that former President Olusegun Obasanjo and a delegation from the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) visited Governor Siminalayi Fubara last Sunday. The government described the reports as fake news aimed at inciting chaos and lawlessness in the state.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Nelson Chukwudi, the government clarified that no such visits took place. Chukwudi emphasized that the claims were fabricated by individuals intent on destabilizing the state and undermining its peace and development.

The statement read: “Our attention has been drawn to a malicious post circulating on social media, alleging that a PANDEF delegation paid a solidarity visit to Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, at the Government House on Sunday, March 16, 2025. Another false report claims that former President Olusegun Obasanjo visited the governor in Port Harcourt. These claims are entirely untrue and are the handiwork of those seeking to create chaos and anarchy in the state.”

Chukwudi further stated that while the government would typically ignore such baseless rumors, it felt compelled to respond to prevent misleading the public. “For the sake of clarity, let it be known that no PANDEF delegation visited Governor Fubara on the said date, nor did Chief Obasanjo meet with him as falsely claimed. These narratives are nothing but the imagination of enemies of the state who are opposed to peace, good governance, and the developmental strides of the current administration.”

The statement also addressed the ongoing political situation in the state, reiterating Governor Fubara’s commitment to implementing the Supreme Court’s judgment on the political crisis. “The governor has made it clear that he is fully committed to complying with the Supreme Court’s ruling. However, the Rivers State House of Assembly has yet to cooperate in resolving the issues raised by the court. The governor remains ready to take all necessary steps to ensure the smooth functioning of all arms of government in the state.”

The Rivers State Government urged the public to disregard the false reports and remain vigilant against attempts to spread misinformation. It reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining peace, promoting development, and upholding the rule of law in the state.
