Former President Olusegun Aremu Obasanjo marked his 88th birthday amid an outpouring of accolades from prominent Nigerians and global figures, recognizing his profound influence on national development, African unity, and international diplomacy.

One of the notable voices celebrating Obasanjo is Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, a former presidential candidate and businessman, who described him as a leader whose impact has shaped Nigeria’s history.

“Baba, your life embodies service, resilience, and unwavering commitment to Nigeria, Africa, and global peace,” Olawepo-Hashim stated.

“From your early years as a military officer to your leadership in the civil war, your tenure as Head of State, and your transformative presidency, you have remained a towering figure in our national history.”

Olawepo-Hashim also recalled working alongside Obasanjo during Nigeria’s transition to democracy in 1998-1999, emphasizing his determination in steering the country toward civilian rule despite political uncertainties.

“At a crucial period in our nation’s history, I saw firsthand your resolve to guide Nigeria towards democracy,” he said. “Your deep understanding of governance, bold approach to challenges, and ability to unite a diverse nation were remarkable.”

Despite his age, Obasanjo continues to actively engage in political discourse, peace-building initiatives, and Africa’s economic progress. His contributions to governance remain a source of inspiration.

“At 88, your energy and commitment to national issues, peace-building, and Africa’s development continue to set an example,” Olawepo-Hashim added. “You remind us that leadership is not bound by age but by a lifelong dedication to service.”

In his tribute, Olawepo-Hashim concluded: “On this special day, I celebrate your wisdom, courage, and unwavering contributions to humanity. May you continue to enjoy strength and good health. Happy 88th birthday, Baba!”
