Despite threats of sanctions from the Julius Abure-led National Executive Committee of the Labour Party, both Peter Obi and Governor Alex Otti’s camps have confirmed that the planned summit will proceed as scheduled. This confirmation comes just 48 hours after the party leadership threatened to penalize the duo for attending the Wednesday meeting, okay.ng reports.

Prof. Theophilus Ndubuaku, Acting Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress Political Commission, and Umar Ibrahim, Peter Obi’s media aide, separately confirmed the summit’s continuation. Ndubuaku dismissed speculations of a cancellation as “theatre of the absurd” and affirmed his attendance. Ibrahim also refuted any suggestion of postponement, stating that all invited stakeholders were prepared to attend.

Regarding the threat of sanctions, Ibrahim declined to comment, stating, “We don’t want any drama with the Labour Party or join issues with members of the party.” This response followed the party’s warning of disciplinary action against Obi and Otti for attending the meeting.
