Abuja, NIGERIA – Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has formally declared his support for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, presenting the President with a ceremonial sword as a symbol of leadership and martial strength.
Okay News gathered that the Governor visited the President at the State House on Monday, April 6, 2026, to express his gratitude for the President’s recent historic visit to Ogun State. During that visit, President Tinubu inaugurated several landmark projects, including the Gateway International Airport in Iperu, the new Gateway Airlines, and the arrival of the state’s first cargo aircraft.
In a symbolic gesture, Abiodun presented the President with the sword in his capacity as the “Jagaban” (Leader of Warriors), urging him to intensify the administration’s “war” on crime, criminality, and corruption. The Governor assured the President that Ogun State remains “solidly behind him” as he prepares for the upcoming 2027 general elections.
The endorsement follows high praise from the President during the airport commissioning on Saturday, where he commended Abiodun’s “visionary leadership” and effective resource management. The event was a major gathering of Nigeria’s political and business elite, attended by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, billionaire businessmen Aliko Dangote and Femi Otedola, and several state governors.
Governor Abiodun emphasized that the new infrastructure projects are part of a broader strategy to position Ogun State as a premier competitive investment destination, noting that over 1,600 kilometers of roads have been rehabilitated or constructed under his administration.
