Former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olisa Metuh has asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to allow former President Goodluck Jonathan appear in court as his defence witness.

Metuh is standing trial for illegally receiving N400million from the office of former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki.

It is the second application by Metuh’s lead counsel, Onyeachi Ikpeazu (SAN), for witnesses to appear in court.

Metuh, through his lawyer, told the court that he had written Jonathan to that effect but that the former President did not reply.

He said, “We have another witness on subpoena, and at the end of the evidence of this another witness, we will take a decision on whether or not the first defendant (Metuh) will testify.

“The other witness we want to subpoena is Goodluck Jonathan, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Responding to a question by Justice Okon Abang, Ikpeazu said, “We wrote him a letter but he did not respond and our plan will be to apply for the subpoena after the first application (Dasuki).”

The Court of Appeal had on September 29 authorised Dasuki to also testify in the case.

Dasuki, who was supposed to testify for the defence, was absent from court on Monday.
