Abuja, Nigeria – Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has donated more than 700 bags of rice to the National Mosque Abuja for distribution to Muslim faithful and vulnerable residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Okay News reports that the donation was made under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) of the Office of the First Lady as part of efforts to support Muslims observing Ramadan and to cushion the economic hardship faced by many households.
Presenting the items on her behalf on Monday, Chairman of the National Mosque Welfare Committee, Mallam Abubakar Sadiq, described the gesture as timely and commendable.
“This gesture from the First Lady comes at a critical time as we prepare for Ramadan. Many families are struggling with the high cost of food items, and this support will go a long way in providing relief,” Sadiq said.
The rice was distributed to widows, orphans and other vulnerable groups across the FCT. The exercise took place within the mosque premises shortly after Zuhr prayers, with beneficiaries expressing appreciation for the intervention.
